IgG Type III Delayed Hypersensitivity Reactions Clinical Relevance
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Although still controversial in mainstream medicine, IgG food sensitivity testing is starting to accumulate research in support of its clinical utility. For example, 125 patients, identified by an allergist as likely having food allergies, were given blood tests for IgG food reactions. All positive foods were removed for a 6 month period. The allergist considered the treatment a success when a minimum 75% improvement in symptoms occurred. Of the 80 patients who completed the full course, 71% were successfully treated. In particular, there were 11 patients who had positive allergy symptoms, but had negative IgE test results. These patients were all successfully treated by eliminating the IgG food allergens. The allergist concluded that blood tests for IgG reactions to food were clinically useful and much more palatable to patients than the traditional skin prick and oral challenge tests. Although he acknowledged that the lack of blinding and randomization meant the results could be considered anecdotal, the allergist concluded that eliminating reactive foods was useful clinically. [Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2000 ;123(1 Pt 1 ): 48-54].

متن کاملImmunotherapy in allergic fungal sinusitis: The controversy continues. A recent review of literature
Allergic fungal sinusitis (AFS), also referred to as allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS), is a noninvasive, eosinophilic form of recurrent chronic allergic hypertrophic rhinosinusitis. AFS has distinct clinical, histopathological, and prognostic findings that differentiate it from other forms of sinusitis. The core pathogenesis and optimum treatment strategies remain debated. Concerns surroun...
متن کاملHypersensitivity Reactions and Methods of Detection
Hypersensitivity reactions are classified into four groups (Type I, II, III, and IV), each characterized by specific biological actions. Research has focused on understanding each hypersensitvity to ensure appropriate therapeutic recommendations are made. This overview will present the defining characteristics of each hypersensitivity and examine the diagnostic methods used to determine the exi...
متن کاملOral tolerance for delayed type hypersensitivity contribution of local and peripheral mechanisms
Oral tolerance is a physiological immune mechanism, which controls the outcome of deleterious hypersensitivity reactions to environmental antigens absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, and maintains homeostasis. Using a mouse model of oral tolerance of delayed type hypersensitivity to contact allergens, i.e. haptens, we have examined the mechanisms involved in the induction of oral toler...
متن کاملHuman immune response to sand fly salivary gland antigens: a useful epidemiological marker?
Antibody (IgG) responses to salivary gland homogenate and to a recombinant salivary protein from the sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis were investigated using sera from children living in an endemic area of visceral leishmaniasis in Brazil. We classified children into four groups according to their responses to Leishmania antigen: (Group I) positive serology and positive delayed type hypersensitiv...
